A man was rescued from the Oconee River Greenway after getting caught in the current on Saturday afternoon.
According to Major Linc Boyer, the water rescue happened around 5 p.m. after a call came in about a man who was struggling in the water.
The man had been trying to retrieve a float, and had a floatation device with him as well.
The Milledgeville fire department, along with police and fire units and Baldwin County fire rescue, sent out boats in order to find and bring the man to safety.
The man was saved, uninjured and reunited with his family.
“We would like to remind everyone to be aware of rapidly changing river levels and currents. You should also always find a landmark you can use to monitor for rising water levels, and wear a life jacket or other personal floatation device,” Boyer said.
