The unemployment rate for Baldwin, Greene, Hancock, Morgan and Putnam Counties rises from 4.4% in October to 5.5% in November.
A closer look at the numbers explains what is going on in the Lake Area.
The number of unemployed people in the Lake Area went up from 2,005 to 2,522. A total of 517.
The number of people working in the Lake Area also went up, from 43,242 to 43,494. A total of 252.
There were also 768 new unemployment claims in the Lake Area in November. The lowest number since February.
That last part of explaining rising unemployment in the Lake Area is the increase in the local workforce by 769. This includes people who gave up looking for a job, but have now returned to the workforce.
