The Milledgeville Police Department is investigating a shooting on Laura Court after a juvenile and a puppy were shot while walking down the street Saturday night.
It happened around 10 p.m., according to Major Linc Boyer.
The department responded to the 2300 block of Laura Court after shots were reported. Officers found multiple shell casings in the roadway and several driveways.
There was damage to several vehicles and homes, which had been hit with bullets.
As officers were gathering information at the scene, Milledgeville’s department dispatch was told by Atrium Health Navicent-Baldwin hospital that a 16-year-old juvenile had just been brought to the emergency room with a single gunshot wound to the leg.
Detectives went to the hospital and the scene of the shooting. While looking around the area, Officer Aaron Lewis located a puppy which had also been shot in the leg and abdomen. Baldwin County Animal Control took the puppy to the Animal Hospital of Milledgeville for treatment.
It was found that the juvenile victim, along with another juvenile, was walking his puppy in the area when they were shot at by several men who were standing in the area.
Through further investigation, detectives were able to identify 20-year-old Jacquavious James as one of the suspects responsible for shooting the juvenile and his puppy.
On Thursday around 7 a.m., members of the Milledgeville Police Department’s Special Response Team (SRT) executed a search warrant and several arrest warrants for James at a house in the 2300 block of Anthony Way. James was taken into custody.
A firearm and narcotics were taken as evidence. James was transported to the Baldwin County Jail, and has been charged with the following offenses: aggravated assault, cruelty to children, cruelty to animals, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
