Drowning Near Boat House Marina

Lake Country Today has received information on the incident that happened on Sunday, July 24th near the Boat House Marina. According to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, deputies along with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division were dispatched to 3391 Walker Church Road, The Boathouse Marina, in reference to a swimmer in distress. 

When personnel arrived on scene, deputies learned that the victim, Juantavious Deshaun Monday, age 18, had dove into the lake from the bridge near the marina. Witnesses stated that the victim surfaced and was in obvious distress and proceeded to attempt to assist Mr. Monday. Bystanders were unable to render aid and Mr. Monday went back under the water and did not resurface.

A search for the victim was initiated by using the Greene County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit as well as with the help of Walker Church F.D. Marine Unit.

Personnel from the Greene County Fire/EMS Service as well as Putnam County Fire Marine Unit assisted in the initial search. The initial search was conducted until a little after midnight, when it was suspended due to inclement weather.
The search resumed Monday morning at around 8:00 am. Personnel from various agencies were called in to assist in the search for Mr. Monday. The GA Department of Natural Resources, Georgia State Patrol Dive Team, Covington F.D. Dive Team, Columbia County F.D. Dive Team, Greene County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit, Walker’s Church F.D. Marine Unit, Putnam County F.D. Marine Unit, as well as the Greene County F.D. and Greene County EMA, were all on scene and had established the command post at the Boathouse Marina.

Mr. Monday was located a little after 12:30 pm with help from the Columbia County F.D. Marine Unit’s 360 degree Sonar Unit. Diver’s were then sent in and were able to locate Mr. Monday in approximately 15 foot of water near where he was last seen by witnesses.
