The Middle Georgia Regional Library (MGRL) will have a ribbon-cutting for a new Library Without Walls (WoW) vehicle to formally announce the expansion of library services to the counties of Baldwin, Crawford, Jones, Macon, Twiggs, and Wilkinson on March 24 at 3:30 p.m at the Collins P. Lee Center in Milledgeville.
A book bike will also be unveiled at the ribbon cutting. The book bike was donated by The Friends of the Mary Vinson Memorial Library (Baldwin County Friends of the Library) as a part of their effort to provide library services to underserved rural communities.
Library WoW services have been active in Bibb County since 2018, visiting locations such as the Brookdale Warming Center and the Mulberry Market on a weekly basis. Now, MGRL’s rural counties have their own traveling library branch.
“Just as we wanted to provide our Bibb County community members with a comfortable and convenient alternative to library services, we want the same for our rural communities,” says Sherri Goss, Regional Library Board Chair.
Library WoW is a traveling library branch, in which an MGRL Community Engagement Coordinator provides library services directly to the organizations throughout the community. Organizations are able to request a visit from Library WoW for services ranging from library card sign-ups and book circulation to storytimes and programming.
