Experts blame the increasing volatility in international relations over Ukraine for the extra pain Americans feel right now at the pump.
“Anytime there’s something going on in an international market…the economy is affected,” said Garrett Townsend, Public Affairs Director for AAA Georgia. “Gas prices, [and] crude oil prices, [are] extremely sensitive to what’s going on in the international scene.”
As the world watches to see if Russia will invade Ukraine, American motorists are forking over even more to fill up their cars.
According to AAA, the national average for regular-grade gasoline is $3.37 a gallon.
“We’re certainly seeing an increase at the pump,” said Townsend. “We’re up seven cents over last week in Georgia.”
Statewide the auto association reports the Peach State sits at $3.20 per gallon for regular gas.
County | Average Price |
---|---|
Greene | $3.373 |
Hancock | $3.224 |
Jones | $3.199 |
Morgan | $3.186 |
Putnam | $3.183 |
Baldwin | $3.086 |
With still so much unknown, prices are likely to continue to go up. “So we’ll just have to hold on and save as much money as we can at the pump,” Townsend said.
