Lake Area officials are urging residents to stay off the roads Friday night into Saturday morning as the chance for icy conditions increases.

On Friday afternoon, the National Weather Service in Peachtree City issued a Winter Weather Advisory that includes the lake area counties of Baldwin, Greene, Hancock, Washington, and Wilkinson.

“Our vehicles are not designed to travel on icy roads. Please do not try to drive in those conditions,” Baldwin County Manager Carlos Tobar said in a statement. “The county will place sand on bridges only, but we still advise individuals not to drive.”

Per the NWS:

“…WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM THIS EVENING TO 10 AM EST SATURDAY…

MIXED PRECIPITATION POSSIBLE. PREDOMINATELY SNOW IS EXPECTED IN THE NORTHERN PORTION OF THE ADVISORY AREA, AND PREDOMINATELY FREEZING RAIN IS EXPECTED IN THE SOUTHERN PORTION OF THE ADVISORY AREA. SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF UP TO ONE HALF INCH AND ICE ACCUMULATIONS FROM A GLAZE UP TO SEVERAL HUNDREDTHS OF AN INCH ARE FORECAST. LOCALIZED SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF UP TO ONE INCH ARE POSSIBLE.

PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED TO END EARLY SATURDAY MORNING, SLICK SPOTS FROM SNOW OR ICE MAY LINGER AS SURFACE TEMPERATURES REMAIN BELOW FREEZING UNTIL MID-MORNING SATURDAY.”
