A Milledgeville man is out of the hospital after being wounded in a drive-by shooting late Tuesday night in the West end housing projects.

Local authorities got reports of shots fired around 11:30 p.m. at a home in the 1100 block of W. Montgomery St.

“The victim said he was outside smoking a cigar and listening to music, and a dark-colored car drove by, and they began firing at him,” said Milledgeville Police Chief Dray Swicord.

Authorities say the victim, Marcus Middlebrooks, 26, suffered only a minor injury. “The shrapnel from one of the projectiles hit him in the foot,” Swicord said.

He was taken to Atrium Health Navicent Baldwin and later released.

Investigators recovered 12 9mm shell casings at the scene.

Middlebrooks’s girlfriend and three children were inside the house at the time. They had moved in earlier that same day.

“We don’t know why he was a target of this drive-by, and we certainly don’t have any leads or suspects at this time,” the police chief told LakeCountryToday.

Anyone with information is asked to call MPD at 478-414-4000 or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
