A man is dead, and another is hospitalized following a car crash on US 441 in Milledgeville that snarled traffic for several hours on Wednesday morning.
Authorities say 48-year-old Kelly Butler of Sparta was driving northbound on N. Columbia St. when a pickup truck heading southbound crossed the center lane, and the two collided.
The wreck occurred shortly after 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Investigators say Butler was traveling on the “inside northbound lane” in a 2005 Nissan Altima when a 2000 Dodge Dakota driven by Trey Ramage, 35, of Milledgeville crossed into his lane.
Butler was pronounced dead on the scene. Milledgeville Police Maj. Linc Boyer tells Lake Country Today Ramage is in stable condition in a local hospital.
Motorists had to be detoured for several hours. Local law enforcement rerouted southbound traffic along Marshall Rd. and northbound drivers were detoured on Dunlap Rd. the scene was cleared around 9 a.m.
The investigation remains active.
