The Georgia Sheriffs’ Association’s Sheriff-Elect Academy was stopped Wednesday after it was hit by cases of COVID-19.Association Executive Director J. Terry Norris tells us five people have tested positive. Two have symptoms.
WSB-TV in Atlanta has confirmed the Sheriffs-elect of Cobb, Fulton, Gwinnett and Henry Counties have tested positive.
Washington County Sheriff Joel Cochran and Taliaferro County Sheriff-elect Tia McWilliams were two of 36 new Sheriffs and Sheriff-elects in attendance.
Sheriff Cochran tells us he feels fine and has no symptoms, but that he plans on getting tested.
Sheriff-elect McWilliams tells us she is not experiencing any symptoms and that she has tested negative.
Director Norris tells us the four weeks of training is mandatory for newly elected or recently elected Sheriffs.
The remaining training will be finished at a future date.
The training was being held in Pine Mountain.
