A 16-year-old from Greensboro has been charged after a head-on crash that killed 44-year-old Emmanuel Ward.
Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills says the 16-year-old has been charged with misdemeanor vehicular homicide and failure to maintain lane.
The 16-year-old claims he fell asleep behind the wheel. Sheriff Sills talks about that here:
The crash happened Monday morning around 6:45 on Pea Ridge Road about a 1/2 mile north of 441. That is near the Eatonton Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
The 16-year-old’s pickup truck hit Ward’s Ford Focus head-on, killing Ward. He was from Siloam.
The 16-year-old was not injured. He was driving to John Milledge Academy, where he is a student.
The misdemeanor charges against the 16-year-old would mean he would not serve any jail time or juvenile detention.
