It will be major upgrade of high-speed internet service for thousands in the Lake Area.
It is part of Tri-County EMC’s launch of Tri-CoGo, a new subsidiary of the Gray-based cooperative.
Over the next two years, the two will build a 1,600-mile fiber network that will pass all of Tri-County EMC’s 22,000 customers.

Tri-County EMC has 14,627 in the Lake Area. (4,316 in Baldwin County, 10 in Morgan County and 10,301 in Putnam County). It also has customers in Jasper (221), Jones (6,827) Jones and Wilkinson (273) Counties.
Greg Mullis, Chief Operating Officer for Tri-CoGo, says they plan to begin laying fiber in May and some customers could have service this summer with speeds up to 1 gigabit per second.
Mullis says their focus will be on serving Tri-County EMC customers, but will look to serve non-members in the future.
