A Morgan County mother has been charged with shooting and killing her 7-year-old son.
Morgan County Sheriff’s deputies were called out to a home in the Riverwalk on the Apalachee subdivision in the northern part of the county Monday morning.
Deputies arrived to find 7-year-old Maddox Jones dead.
The father, 50-year-old Douglas Jones, and the mother, 36-year-old Alison Jones, were also at the Riverwalk Road home.
Morgan County Sheriff Robert Markley says investigators believe there was an issue between the husband and wife, but don’t know what led to the shooting of Maddox.
Alison Jones has been charged with felony murder and murder. She has been also charged with aggravated assault for shooting at her husband.
Sheriff Markley says “there is no similar history that we’ve had with the family. We’ve had no calls for any violence or anything like that at the house.”
Maddox Jones was a student at Morgan County Primary School. School System Superintendent Dr. Virgil Cole released this statement:
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Maddox Jones, one of our primary school students. Maddox was a beloved member of our school community, and we will miss him tremendously. The school district is mourning this tragic loss along with the family, our staff, and community. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this terribly difficult time. Counselors will be available to assist students and staff to help them work through their grief or concerns.”
Alison Jones appeared in court Tuesday. She was denied bond and remains in the Morgan County Jail.
