Two teenagers were shot in an overnight shooting in Milledgeville.
According to Major Linc Boyer, it happened around 1 a.m.
Officer John Childress was on patrol in the area of the 100 block of West Martin Lurther King, Jr. Blvd when he heard several gunshots coming from the area of a large party.
While on the way to the scene, Sergeant Brandon Crawford saw a black Acura sedan leaving the area at a high speed with its hazard lights activated. As Crawford caught up to the vehicle, the vehicle turned into the hospital emergency entrance, and a 14-year-old boy was taken from the vehicle with a single gunshot wound to the neck. The juvenile was transferred to an Atlanta area hospital by helicopter.
At the same time, Boyer arrived in the area of the shooting and saw another black sedan leaving the scene at a high speed with the back passenger side door open and no hazard lights on. Several bystanders were pointing and yelling at the people in the car and saying they had a gun.
Boyer tried to stop the vehicle, but it failed to stop when he activated his blue lights and siren, and continued south on North Wilkinson Street, then west on West Charlton Street before turning south on North Columbia Street. Due to the nature of the call and high pedestrian traffic in the downtown area, Boyer, with assistance from Detective Michael Mcleroy, hit the vehicle to bring it to a stop on North Columbia Street at the intersection of West Thomas Street.
Once the vehicle was stopped, an 18-year-old male was found in the backseat suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers immediately escorted the vehicle to the hospital and turned the subject over to hospital personnel. The man was taken to an area hospital, where he is listed in critical condition.
Detectives responded to the scene and the hospital. After processing the crime scene, search warrants were secured and executed on the two vehicles, which had been taken for evidence. Detectives found a .40S&W Glock handgun with an extended magazine, as well as a 9mm Taurus handgun, which had been reported stolen during an earlier incident.
