On March 12th, high school students from Lake Oconee Academy competed at the Class A-Public, Region 8 Literary Meet and were named Region Champions for the second year in a row! The competition focuses on student achievement in the areas of Essay Writing, Extemporaneous Speaking, Dramatic and Comedic Presentation, and Voice. The following students received region medals in their individual events, advancing to the State Meet.
◾ Oral Presentation, Comedic Solo: Julia Dixon, 1st place
◾ Oral Presentation, Comedic Duo: Elisa Garcia & Jacob Moore, 1st place
◾ Extemporaneous Speaking, Domestic: Halsey Bosart, 1st place
◾ Solo: Lucas Minton, 1st place
◾ Trio: Remi Baker, Elisa Garcia, Sarah Grace Ingle, 2nd place
◾ Quartet: Walker Cannon, Gemin Manto, Lucas Minton, Jacob Moore, 1st place
Two weeks later at the State Literary Meet, LOA competed against 29 other high schools in Georgia. They received
enough individual event points to bring home the State Runner-Up trophy for the first time in school history. Lucas
Minton (senior) was named the state champion in Boys’ Vocal Solo event while Elisa Garcia (junior) and Jacob Moore
(senior) won state runner-up in the Oral Presentation, Comedic Duo category. Other placements included:
◾ Oral Presentation, Comedic Solo: Julia Dixon, 3rd place
◾ Quartet: Walker Cannon, Gemin Manto, Lucas Minton, Jacob Moore, 3rd place
◾ Trio: Remi Baker, Elisa Garcia, Sarah Grace Ingle, 4th place
These students will be performing at the first annual Greene County Fine Arts Festival on Tuesday, April 12th at 6:00pm
at Festival Hall in downtown Greensboro. The event is free and open to the public. Come see these amazingly talented
kids perform their pieces from State Literary!
