Construction crews are in the early stages of a months-long project to rebuild shoulder lanes on I-20 east and west in four lake area counties.
According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, crews from the Pittman Construction Company began work in the eastbound lanes on Dec. 9, 2021.
“Once they get done eastbound, they’re going to flip to westbound, and there will be obviously shoulder closures,” said Kyle Collins, GDOT East spokesman. “There may be some right-hand lane closures as well during some of that work.”
The project’s cost is $743,325 and will use 3,300 asphalt tons.
Work will extend from mile marker 113 to 165. The counties affected are Morgan, Greene, Taliaferro, and Warren. Crews have until March 2022 to complete the project.
