Greene Co. Schools end mask mandate

The Greene County School System is pleased to announce the suspension of its campus mask requirement for students and staff, effective Monday, November 1st.

The decision to suspend the mask mandate was made based on consistent improvement in COVID-19 conditions within Greene County and across Georgia. Throughout the past 5 weeks, the school system’s COVID-19 activity has been little to nonexistent, with all numbers of cases and quarantines for both students and staff remaining less than 1% for the past 7 weeks. This reduction in COVID-19 activity is in line with the steep decline in case numbers in Greene County and across the state since the beginning of September.

“We as a school system have had a safe and successful start to this semester due to the actions of each of our staff, students, and their families,” said Dr. Chris Houston, Superintendent. “I would like to thank each and every one of them for taking seriously the personal responsibility we all share in making the necessary decisions to keep us safe and healthy.”

The district will keep in place other health safety protocols to prevent infection from spreading in school buildings, including enhanced deep cleaning and disinfection, and frequent handwashing and sanitization.

GCSS leadership will continue to monitor state and local COVID-19 conditions on a daily basis and adjust the district’s safety protocols if needed.
