Investigators are working to determine the cause of a Thursday house fire off of Meriwether Circle in Baldwin County.

“The house is a total loss at this time,” said Victor Young, Baldwin County Fire Rescue Chief. “From doing a primary search of the home, we found there was no fatalities, [and] no persons in the house.”

Young said the first call came in around 5:40 p.m. on Thursday, and multiple fire crews from the City of Milledgeville and Baldwin County were on the scene within five minutes.

“Upon arrival, there was heavy fire and smoke at the structure, and a team went in, and within 30 minutes, the house fire was under control,” Young added.

Initially, investigators were unable to locate the occupants of the home at 152 Meriwether Cir. NW., but they walked up to the home while the fire was still being put out.

“We’re just glad that no one lost their life in the home; it’s a blessing that they weren’t home at the time,” said Chief Young.
