Two Lake Area law enforcement agencies are hoping to bring their communities together as a part of the national “Faith & Blue weekend.”

“Law enforcement and members of the community they come together for a weekend of resolution and reconciliation,” said Stephanie Whitley with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office. “It’s just a collaborative effort to build bridges and break biases.”

The National Faith & Blue weekend was started in 2020 and is a program of MovementForward Inc. based out of Atlanta.

Agencies around the country will be hosting events this weekend.

Last year the Morgan County Sheriff’s office helped pass out food to local residents, but this Saturday the event will have more of a “fall festival” theme.

“We’re also going to have law enforcement vehicles here where children can, come and look at the different vehicles from different law enforcement agencies,” said Whitley. “We want to make this fun for everyone to come out and have a safe place to have fun and play games and meet the officers who protect and serve our community.”

In Milledgeville, Sgt. Kevin Pope with the Georgia State Patrol helped to organize the event the First United Methodist Church. He spearheaded the effort with GBI Special Agent in Charge Mary Chandler.

“Sometimes law enforcement and the community we serve can be disconnected from each other, and that’s never a good thing,” Pope tells Lake Country Today. “We serve the community we have to have the trust of the community to even do our jobs.”
