An important day in Georgia politics as the first redistricting hearing is held his evening.
This begins the public process of redrawing General Assembly and Congressional district lines.
Republican State Representative Susan Holmes and Democratic State Representative Mack Jackson are the members of the redistricting committees from our area.
Here is the tentative schedule for in-person and virtual hearings. We will share more details are we get them.
Census data for drawing lines is next expected until September. That likely means a legislative special session for redistricting would not happen until October or November.
The Lake Area is currently represented by one member of Congress (Rep. Jody Hice), two State Senators (Sens. Burt Jones and David Lucas) and four State Representatives (Dave Belton, Mack Jackson, Trey Rhodes and Rick Williams).
