Greensboro City Councilwoman Shirley Wynn is resigning, effective July 4th.
Mayor Glenn Wright announced the resignation during this week’s council meeting by reading a letter from Wynn. She did not attend Monday’s meeting. No reason was given for the resignation.
Wynn was first elected in 2001 and has served since 2002.
The July 4th resignation date is important because it allows the City Council to appoint her replacement until the November elections. If the resignation was more than six months before the end of Wynn’s term, then a special election would have been necessary before November.
