A Greensboro Police Department officer is recovering at home after a crash with another vehicle Wednesday night.
Assistant Police Chief Tommy Nelson says the crash happened around 11:30 on Highway 44, just north of I-20 near the Greene County DFACS office.
The Georgia State Patrol says a driver of the BMW tried to pass, crossing the double line and then hitting Corporal Tyrone “TJ” Janes’ police SUV.
The driver of the BMW had been involved in a police chase, but was not being chased at that time.
Janes was conscious and alert when he was taken to Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening head injuries. Nelson says Janes’ head has stitches and staples.
Also in the SUV was police K9 Halo, who was evaluated by a veterinarian and is doing well.
The other driver was also taken to the hospital, released and then taken to the Greene County Jail.
We have few details on the chase and suspect.
We will update this story when we get those details.
