Save My 44 is talking about their concerns about the Highway 44 widening project after the Georgia DOT released an update on the project, which included changes to the key Lake Area road.

Member Jim Pound says his biggest concerns are with project safety.

Save My 44’s Jim Pound talks with News Anchor Rahul Bali about his concerns with the proposed widening of Highway 44

Pound’s top concern is the ability for drivers to make U-turns.

Other concerns include:

  • Speed Limit
  • Emergency vehicle access to accidents on 44
  • Bike lanes are not safe and will not be used

The Georgia DOT has decided to add a roundabout to the project at Highway 44 and Linger Longer Road.

Pound says the group is hoping for roundabouts Carey Station and Harmony Roads.

Pound says Save My 44 is not talking about legal action right now, but continuing to work with the DOT, Putnam County government and Greene County government.
