New school zone speeding cameras are now in place in Milledgeville at the Georgia Military College crosswalk on south Elbert Street.

Milledgeville Police Chief Dray Swicord says they went activate March 8th and are issuing warnings for now.

Chief Swicord they are seeing about 40 drivers a day pass at 11 mph over the school zone speed limit. They clocked one person at 55.

Starting April 12th, the first citation fine will be $75. $125 for the second citation and every afterwards. It wouldn’t count for points on your driver’s license.

The cameras will operate 6:40 in the morning through 4:30 in the afternoon on school days.

More school zone speeding cameras are in the works in the Highway 49/Blandy Road areas around Baldwin County Schools.
