Former Milledgeville Mayor and State Senator Floyd Griffin will be honored today with the naming of a street and a city plaza.

West McIntosh Street between North Wayne and North Wilkinson Street will be named Floyd L. Griffin, Jr. Street.

Black Hertiage Plaza will be become Floyd L. Griffin, Jr. Black Hertiage Plaza.

Today’s ceremony will be at 1 p.m. at Black Heritage Plaza.

Griffin was first elected to the Georgia State Senate in 1994 and re-elected in 1996.

At the time, the 25th State Senate District included Baldwin, Greene, Hancock, Jasper, Jones, Morgan, Putnam and Taliaferro Counties.

He left office in 1998 when he ran for Lieutenant Governor.

In 2001, Griffin was elected Mayor of Milledgeville and served one-term.
