Baldwin County-Milledgeville’s award-winning library director is leaving at the end of the month.

Twin Lakes Library System Director Stephen Houser is taking the same position with the West Georgia Regional Library System.

The WGRLS includes Carroll, Douglas, Haralson, Heard and Paulding Counties.

Houser says the new position puts him closer to family.

Houser has been Twin Lakes Library System Director for six years.

He was honored last years as the Georgia Public Librarian of the Year.

Houser became a public figure during the Baldwin County-Milledgeville fight over funding local services like the library system.

Local funding for the library system become a point of contention.

Stephen Whigham has been named interim library director. He was interim director in 2014. Before that, Whigham was Director of the Ocmulgee Regional Library System until his 2012 retirement.
